Hyundai Elantra Touring Reviews

The 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring earned the #1 slot in its category and the 2012 Car To Buy Top Performer Award based on its excellent performance in all of the criteria: consumer recommendations, IIHS Top Safety Pick, fuel economy, reliability, customer popularity, good depreciation value, and overall perceived quality.

The 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring is largely unchanged from the 2011 model. A few tweaks were made to options packages. The Touring is a hatchback model. The Elantra also comes as a four-door sedan. This year’s Touring is based on the pre-2011 Elantra, so it is lacking some of the finer characteristics of the 2012 sedan. In spite of that, the Touring is a great value, is practical, and offers plenty of space and cargo area.

The Touring’s engine is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine with 138 horsepower. The five-speed manual transmission is standard, but buyers can add on a four-speed automatic. The Touring gets 23 miles per gallon in the city, 31 on the highway, and 26 overall. The car drives well and the engine is more powerful than would be expected for its size, although it strains when pushed hard. The suspension is well-tuned and the car handles well. Road noise is minimal in the cabin.

The two trim levels available are the GLS and the SE. The GLS comes with heated mirrors, power accessories, keyless entry, folding rear seats, six-speaker sound system, an auxiliary audio jack and a USB/iPod interface. The SE includes all the features of the GLS, but adds roof rails, driver seat lumbar and height adjustment, cruise control, steering wheel audio controls, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a trip computer.

All the Touring models include traction and stability control, antilock disc brakes, front-seat side airbags, and side curtain airbags. Minimal crash test data is available, but the Touring did get the best rating in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s offset crash test.
